In six games with the Penguins, forward Stefan Noesen had one goal.

The Penguins lost forward Stefan Noesen to the San Jose Sharks through waivers on Thursday.

After being a healthy scratch for Tuesday’s 4-1 road win against the Calgary Flames, Noesen was placed on waivers the following day. At noon on Thursday, the Sharks officially claimed the 26-year-old forward.

Signed to a one-year two-way contract by the Penguins on Dec. 2, Noesen appeared in six NHL games and scored one goal. He opened the season on an AHL contract with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins. In 22 games with the AHL Penguins, he scored 22 points (14 goals, eight assists) and was one of that league’s top goal scorers prior to joining the NHL Penguins.

With Noesen’s departure, the Penguins currently only have 12 healthy forwards on the roster with two games remaining for their swing through Western Canada. They will face the Edmonton Oilers on Friday then the Vancouver Canucks on Saturday.

The NHL’s holiday roster freeze will go into effect at midnight on Thursday and lasts through Dec. 27. During that time, teams are prohibited from making recalls or assignments to or from their affiliates outside of emergency situations.

Note: The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins assigned goaltender Emil Larmi to the Wheeling Nailers of the ECHL.
