The Penguins named Kevin Acklin as president of business operations on Wednesday.
Previously the franchise’s chief operating officer and general counsel, the 46-year-old Acklin has been with the Penguins since 2018.
In his new role, Acklin will report to the new ownership group, Fenway Sports Group, and manage the day-to-day operations of the business, including strategic planning, corporate partnerships, marketing and community outreach.
Since joining the Penguins, Acklin has overseen the ongoing development of the property previously inhabited by the Civic Arena.
While this position is new, Acklin will largely replace former CEO and president David Morehouse who resigned in April.
Additionally, in the team’s release announcing Acklin’s promotion, the team announced Brian Burke will remain as president of hockey operations and report directly to Fenway Sports Group.
Burke has had that position since February of 2021. He previously reported to Morehouse.
Before joining the Penguins, Acklin was the chief legal officer of Peoples Natural Gas Company in 2018. Previously, Acklin served as the chief of staff and chief development officer for former Pittsburgh mayor Bill Peduto.
A native of South Oakland, Acklin is a graduate of Central Catholic.
