The Pittsburgh Penguins have placed six players into the NHL’s protocols for the coronavirus.

Those players include forwards Teddy Blueger, Evan Rodrigues and Dominik Simon, defensemen John Marino and Mike Matheson and goaltender Tristan Jarry.

Rodrigues was initially placed into protocols Sunday. The team announced the statuses of all six players Monday approximately a half hour before the team’s practice started in Cranberry at noon.

Forward Jake Guentzel is not practicing for what the team labeled as a “non-covid” illness. Also absent from practice was forward Jason Zucker who had missed several practices before the NHL’s holiday break because of an undisclosed ailment.

The Penguins have had four consecutive games postponed because of an ongoing rise in players and team employees testing positive for the virus over the past two weeks. In total, well over 100 players league-wide are currently in the protocols.

Follow the Penguins all season long.
