On Thursday, the Pittsburgh Penguins placed defenseman Ryan Graves on long-term injured reserve because of a concussion.
With that designation, Graves will miss the remainder of the regular season but will be eligible to rejoin the team for the postseason, assuming it qualifies for playoff competition.
Players placed on long-term injured reserve must miss 10 games and 24 days of the regular season calendar.
Graves’ injury has sidelined him for the past six games and 13 days going into Thursday.
In 70 games this season, Graves has scored 14 points (three goals, 11 assists) while averaging 18 minutes, 23 seconds of ice time.
In addition to Graves, Penguins forwards Noel Acciari (undisclosed), Jansen Harkins (right hand) and Matt Nieto (right knee) are designated to long-term injured reserve.
Before an optional morning skate Thursday at PPG Paints Arena, Acciari and Graves worked out on the ice.
In a corresponding transaction, the team recalled forward Vinnie Hinostroza from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League.
This marks the eighth time Hinostroza has been recalled to the NHL roster this season. In 14 NHL games, he has scored three points (one goal, two assists) while averaging 9:45 of ice time per contest.
With Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, the right-handed Hinostroza has appeared in 39 AHL games and scored 32 points (15 goals, 17 assists).
During Thursday’s home game against the Detroit Red Wings, Hinostroza was scratched along with forward Jesse Puljujarvi and rookie defenseman John Ludvig.
Crosby named team MVP

The award is voted on by teammates.
In 78 games this season, Crosby leads the team with 86 points (40 goals, 46 assists) while averaging 20:05 of ice time per contest.
Crosby also was named recipient of the Players’ Player Award, an honor that is “voted on by the players for the teammate they feel exemplifies leadership for the team both on and off the ice and is dedicated to teamwork.”
This is the sixth occasion Crosby has been selected for this award.
St. Ivany honored by AHL
KDP Studio The Penguins recalled defenseman Jack St. Ivany from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on March 21.Penguins rookie defenseman Jack St. Ivany was named the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins’ nominee for the AHL’s Man of the Year awards.
The honor acknowledges “outstanding contributions to the local community and charitable organizations.”
Nominees from all 32 AHL teams are selected for the honor and are finalists for the league’s Yanick Dupré Memorial Award, the winner of which will be announced later in April.
St. Ivany has been on the Penguins’ NHL roster since being recalled March 21.
Gauthier named All-Star

Primarily assigned to the Wheeling Nailers this season, Gauthier has appeared in 42 ECHL games and has posted a 24-16-2 record along with a 2.23 goals-against average, a .923 save percentage and four shutouts.
Currently assigned to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, Gauthier has not played in a game at any level since March 16 because of an undisclosed injury.
Undrafted, the right-catching goaltender is in the second year of a three-year entry-level contract with the Penguins.
