Penguins forward prospect Sam Poulin is one of 41 players selected for a summer development camp with Canada’s national junior team to be held July 27-31 in Calgary, Alberta.
The camp will be held in a virtual setting due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. Canada’s roster in the 2021 IIHF World Junior Championship tournament, which is scheduled to be held in Alberta — Edmonton and Red Deer specifically — this December, will be selected from this group.
The entire roster for the development camp can be viewed here.
Poulin, 19, was the Penguins’ first-round pick (No. 21 overall) in 2019. Signed to a three-year entry-level contract in September, Poulin, a native of Blainville, Quebec, spent the 2019-20 season with the Sherbrooke Phoenix of the Quebec Major Junior League. Serving as the Phoenix’s captain, Poulin scored 77 points (32 goals, 43 assists) in 46 games.
Last week, Poulin told French Canadian broadcaster TVA that the Penguins plan to recall him to be part of an expanded roster for a planned training camp in July and a potential postseason tournament beginning in August. The NHL has yet to officially announce rosters will be expanded and the Penguins have yet to announce any roster moves.
Follow the Penguins all season long.
