The Penguins selected forward Tanner Howe in the second round (No. 46 overall) during the NHL Draft in June.

Pittsburgh Penguins forward prospect Tanner Howe was selected for Canada’s roster in the upcoming International Ice Hockey Federation’s (IIHF) World Junior Championship tournament.

Hockey Canada announced its roster Friday.

Howe, 18, was selected by the Penguins in the second round (No. 46 overall) during the NHL Draft in June. He signed a three-year entry-level contract July 10. That contract will not begin until he turns professional.

Splitting the 2024-25 season between Western Hockey League’s Regina Pats and Calgary Hitmen, Howe has appeared in 16 games and scored 16 points (nine goals, seven assists).

Penguins defensive prospect Harrison Brunicke was not chosen after being named to Hockey Canada’s selection camp for the tournament. He has been sidelined since Nov. 11 after suffering a wrist injury.

Brunicke also was drafted in the second round (No. 44 overall) in June.

The IIHF World Junior Championship tournament will be staged in Ottawa between Dec. 26 and Jan. 5.

Follow the Penguins all season long.
