Penguins Prospect Watch: P.O Joseph scores his 1st goal of the season

An occasional look at how the Penguins’ prospects have performed over the previous seven days:

• In the American Hockey League (AHL), forward Filip Hallander had an overtime goal for the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins in a 3-2 road win against the Charlotte Checkers on Tuesday.

A second-round pick (No. 58 overall) in 2018, Hallander, 21, is in the second year of a three-year entry-level contract.

• On Wednesday, defenseman P.O Joseph scored his first goal of the season for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton in a 4-3 road loss to the Checkers.

Acquired via trade in 2019, Joseph, 22, is in the final year of a three-year entry-level contract.

• Forward Radim Zohorna scored Wilkes-Barre/Scranton’s only goal in a 5-1 home loss to the Providence Bruins on Saturday.

A free agent signing in 2020, Zohorna is in the first year of a two-year, two-way contract.

• In the ECHL, goaltender Alex D’Orio made 34 saves on 35 shots for the Wheeling Nailers in a 5-1 home win against the Indy Fuel on Wednesday.

Undrafted, D’Orio, 22, joined the team as a free agent in 2017. He is in the final year of a three-year entry-level contract.

• On Friday, defenseman Will Reilly had two goals and an assist for the Nailers in a 7-4 road win against the Iowa Heartlanders.

A seventh-round pick (No. 217) in 2017, Reilly, 24, is in the final year of an entry-level contract.

• Forward Justin Almeida scored all four of the Nailers’ goals in a 4-2 road win against the Heartlanders on Saturday.

A fifth-round pick (No. 129 overall) in 2018, Almeida, 22, is in the final year of a three-year entry-level contract.

• In the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL), forward Raivis Ansons recorded two assists for the Baie-Comeau Drakkar in an 8-3 road loss to the Acadie-Bathurst Titan on Sunday.

The 19-year-old Ansons was a fifth-round pick (No. 149 overall) of the Penguins in 2020. He is unsigned.

• In the Swedish Hockey League (SHL), goaltender Calle Clang made 25 saves on 28 shots for Rogle in a 4-1 home loss to Leksand on Saturday.

Clang, 19, was a third-round pick (No. 77 overall) in 2020. He is unsigned.

• In the NCAA ranks, defenseman Clayton Phillips scored a power-play goal for Penn State in a 5-1 road win against St. Thomas on Tuesday.

Phillips, 22, was a third-round pick (No. 93 overall) in 2017. He is not signed.

• Also in the NCAA, forward Liam Gorman had an assist for Princeton in a 5-4 home loss to RIT on Friday.

The 21-year-old Gorman was a sixth-round pick (No. 177 overall) in 2018. He is unsigned.

• Elsewhere in the NCAA, defenseman Daniel Laatsch recorded an assist — his first point of the season — for Wisconsin in a 1-1 tie with Clarkson on Friday.

A seventh-round pick (No. 215 overall) in 2021, Laatsch, 19, is unsigned.

• In the Western Hockey League (WHL), forward Lukas Svejkovsky had a goal for the Medicine Hat Tigers in a 6-2 home loss to the Regina Pats on Tuesday.

Svejkovsky, 20, was a fourth-round pick (No. 180 overall) in 2020. He is not signed.

• Elsewhere in the WHL, defenseman Ryan McCleary had an assist for the Portland Winterhawks in a 4-3 home loss to the Kamloops Blazers on Friday.

The 18-year-old McCLeary was a seventh-round pick (No. 194 overall) in 2021. He is unsigned.
