Penguins re-sign defenseman Ryan Shea
The Pittsburgh Penguins re-signed defenseman Ryan Shea to a one-year, two-way contract with a salary cap hit of $775,000.
Shea, 27, joined the Penguins as an unrestricted free agent last offseason, agreeing to a one-year, one-way contract with an identical salary cap hit and made his NHL debut during the 2023-24 campaign.
Appearing in 31 games, he scored one goal while averaging 12 minutes, 37 seconds of ice time. In the final weeks of the season, Shea and rookie defenseman Jack St. Ivany formed a sturdy third pairing on the blue line.
A left-hander who also can play the right side, Shea (6-foot, 200 pounds) also spent time with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins of the American Hockey League last season. In 23 AHL games, he had six points (two goals, four assists).
