The Pittsburgh Penguins re-signed forward Alex Nylander to a one-year, one-way contract worth $775,000 on Saturday.
Per Cap Friendly, Nylander will be a restricted free agent when the contract expires in the 2024 offseason.
Nylander, 25, was scheduled to become a restricted free agent July 1. His current contract is a one-year, two-way deal that carries a salary cap hit of $750,000.
In nine NHL games this past season, Nylander scored two points (one goal, one assist) while averaging 12 minutes, 18 seconds of ice time per contest.
Nylander spent most of the 2022-23 season with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League and served as that team’s representative at the AHL’s All-Star Game event. In 55 AHL games, Nylander had 50 points, including a team-best 25 goals.
A right-handed shot, Nylander is scheduled to play for Sweden in the upcoming International Ice Hockey Federation’s (IIHF) World Championship tournament.
The Penguins acquired Nylander in a trade that sent forward Sam Lafferty to the Chicago Blackhawks on Jan. 5, 2022.
This transaction comes with the Penguins still searching for a successor to former general manager Ron Hextall, who was fired April 14.
For the time being, director of hockey operations Alec Schall, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton general manager/manager of hockey operations Erik Heasley and hockey operations analyst Andy Saucier are overseeing front office matters.
The Penguins have 19 remaining players who are pending free agents this offseason.

Goaltender — Filip Lindberg
Hallander signed a five-year contract with Timra of the Swedish Hockey League on Friday, but the Penguins can retain his NHL rights with a qualifying offer.
