The Pittsburgh Penguins reassigned forward Joona Koppanen to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League on Tuesday afternoon.

Koppanen, 27, was called up to the NHL on Sunday but did not suit up for the Penguins in Monday’s road contest at Seattle.

Koppanen has appeared in 10 NHL games this season with one assist, averaging 12 minutes, 28 seconds of ice time primarily as a fourth-line winger. He last skated Nov. 29.

With Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, Koppanen has been utilized mainly at center, making 22 appearances and scoring six goals with five assists.

A left-handed shot in his third season with the Penguins organization, Koppanen is signed through the 2025-26 on a two-way contract worth $775,000 annually.
