The Pittsburgh Penguins reassigned forward Vinnie Hinostroza to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League Saturday evening shortly before puck drop at PPG Paints Arena vs. the Boston Bruins.

Hinostroza, 30, was called up from the AHL on April 11 (the eighth time he’d been added to the NHL roster this season) but did not play in the Penguins’ eventual overtime win that night against the Detroit Red Wings.

He has appeared in 14 games with the Penguins this year, most recently Dec. 31, scoring a goal with two assists while averaging 9 minutes, 45 seconds of ice time.

Hinostroza was a summer free agent signing by the Penguins last year and carries a salary cap hit of $775,000 for the season.

In 39 games at Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, he has contributed 15 goals with 17 assists.
