Minutes before puck drop Saturday against Washington, the Pittsburgh Penguins reassigned goaltender Dustin Tokarski to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League.
Tokarski had scrambled to join the team earlier this week in Dallas, when Tristan Jarry was unexpectedly sidelined for the Penguins’ Thursday evening game against the Stars.
Jarry, who did not play Thursday as a result of an unspecified injury, suited up Saturday night as backup to Casey DeSmith.
His availability against the Capitals, combined with Tokarski’s departure, lends optimism to Jarry having avoided another longer-term absence as a result of injury.
With the Penguins fighting for dear life and an Eastern Conference wild-card playoffs spot, that should come as good news.
Tokarski has gone 1-2-0 in four games played with the Penguins this season. He owns a 12-11-5 record, 2.47 goals-against average and .917 save percentage at the AHL level.
