The Penguins have recalled forward Adam Johnson from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League and placed forward Alex Galchenyuk on injured reserve.

Johnson, 25, made his NHL debut last season by appearing in six games and recording two assists. He opened this AHL season by starting as the left wing of Wilkes-Barre/Scranton’s second line in a 4-3 road win against the Hershey Bears on Saturday. He recorded two assists in that contest.

An undisclosed injury limited Johnson to one game and one goal during the preseason last month.

Galchenyuk, 25, did not practice in Cranberry on Wednesday after aggravating a prior ailment, according to coach Mike Sullivan. He was also limited to one game and one goal during the preseason due to an undisclosed injury.

Forward Patric Hornqvist remains an active member of the roster but is considered “day-to-day” after missing practice due to an unspecified injury. He was sidelined after being struck by a puck in Tuesday’s 4-1 loss to the Winnipeg Jets in PPG Paints Arena.

Johnson joins forwards Andrew Agozzino and Sam Lafferty who were recalled from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on Monday.

Along with Galchenyuk, the Penguins also have forwards Nick Bjugstad, Evgeni Malkin and Bryan Rust on injured reserve.

The Penguins will host the Anaheim Ducks on Thursday, 7:08 p.m.
