The Pittsburgh Penguins recalled defenseman Alexander Alexeyev from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League on Thursday morning.

In a related transaction, fellow defenseman Ryan Graves was assigned to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on a conditioning loan.

Alexeyev, 26, joined the Penguins organization last summer as a free agent.

A 6-foot-4, left-handed shot, he has appeared in 29 AHL games this season, logging three goals and four assists.

A veteran of 80 NHL games, all with Washington, Alexeyev was a first-round selection (No. 31 overall) by the Capitals in 2018.

In 2022-23, he appeared in 32 games for Washington, recording five assists while averaging 16 minutes, 27 seconds of nightly ice time.

The following campaign, he skated in a career-high 39 games, scoring a goal with two assists.

Alexeyev, a native of St. Petersburg, Russia, has also played in 174 AHL games, all with the Hershey Bears before this season.

He is signed through the end of 2025-26 at a salary of $775,000.

Graves, 30, has split this season between the NHL and AHL. With the Penguins, he’s appeared in 19 games, and scored one goal. At Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, Graves has two goals and seven assists in 13 contests.

Graves is signed through 2028-29 for $4.5 million annually.
