The Pittsburgh Penguins recalled defenseman Juuso Riikola from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League (AHL).

The 27-year-old Riikola has appeared in three AHL games this season and has two assists.

During the NHL preseason, Riikola played in four games and did not record a point.

In 75 career NHL games, Riikola has 12 points (three goals, nine assists).

Riikola’s recall comes after the Penguins announced defenseman Kris Letang was being placed into the NHL’s protocol for covid-19 and would not play in Saturday’s home game against the Toronto Maple Leafs.

The 27-year-old Riikola is expected to be a healthy scratch for Saturday’s game.
