The Penguins recalled defenseman Mark Friedman from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League (AHL). On Monday, he was sent to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on a conditioning assignment.
Friedman has been a healthy scratch for 39 of the past 40 games at the NHL level, including the past 19 contests.
This week, he appeared in two contests for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, recording two shots and two penalty minutes.
With the Pittsburgh Penguins this season, Friedman has played in 12 games and recorded four assists while averaging 13:33 of ice time per contest.
The right-handed defenseman, who is capable of playing either side of the ice, was present for Friday’s practice in Cranberry. Meanwhile, incumbent defenseman Mike Matheson, a left-hander, was not present. There was no immediate word on Matheson’s status.
