With Marcus Pettersson placed on injured reserve Tuesday morning, the Pittsburgh Penguins added reinforcements to their blue line, recalling Nathan Clurman from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League.

If and when he does suit up, Clurman would be in line to make his NHL debut.

A 26-year-old right-handed shot, Clurman has appeared in 16 games for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton this season, contributing a goal and four assists.

Pettersson was injured Saturday in an overtime loss to the Ottawa Senators.

Arguably the most dependable defenseman for the Penguins this year, he’d appeared in 32 games with two goals and 11 assists at the time of his injury, averaging 21 minutes, 47 seconds of nightly ice time.

A sixth-round draft pick (No. 161 overall) by the Colorado Avalanche in 2016, Clurman is a veteran of 126 AHL games, primarily over parts of four seasons with the Colorado Eagles.

His most extensive campaign with the Eagles was 2022-23, when he appeared in 57 games for Colorado’s AHL affiliate, scoring three goals with 15 assists.

Clurman played collegiately at Notre Dame and is a native of Boulder, Colo.

The 6-foot-2, 193-pound defenseman was signed through 2024-25 this past July at a salary cap hit of $775,000, per PuckPedia.
