In 41 AHL games this season, forward Emil Bemstrom is Wilkes-Barre/Scranton’s leading scorer with 44 points (20 goals, 24 assists).

The Pittsburgh Penguins recalled forward Emil Bemstrom and rookie goaltender Joel Blomqvist from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League on Tuesday.

In a corresponding transaction, goaltender Tristan Jarry was assigned to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.

These maneuvers come as NHL teams emerge from a break for the league’s 4 Nations Face-Off tournament and resume team-wide activities such as practices. The Penguins have not held a team-wide function since a 3-2 road loss to the Philadelphia Flyers on Feb. 8.

Bemstrom has been recalled to the NHL roster for the second time this season. In two NHL contests, he has no points and has averaged 12:14 of ice time per contest while primarily inhabiting a role on the left wing of the third line.

An All-Star at the AHL level, Bemstrom has skated in 41 games with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton and is that team’s leading scorer with 44 points (20 goals, 24 assists).

He is signed to a one-year contract with a salary cap hit of $775,000, the league minimum.

Blomqvist returns for his third stint on the NHL roster this season. In 11 games with the Pittsburgh Penguins, Bemstrom has a 3-8-0 record, a 3.54 goals against average and an .896 save percentage.

With Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, Blomqvist has appeared in 15 contests and posted a 7-5-3 record, a 2.93 goals against average, a .910 save percentage and one shutout.

In the second year of a three-year entry-level contract, Blomqvist carries a salary cap hit of $886,667.

Jarry heads back to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton after being formally recalled to the NHL roster on Feb. 8 in what was largely a paper transaction for the duration of the break.

A two-time All-Star in the NHL, he has struggled considerably this season at the NHL level. In 22 games, he has an 8-8-4 record, a 3.31 goals against average and an .894 save percentage.

Over two separate stints with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton this season, Jarry has skated in nine contests and posted a 6-3-0 record, a 2.11 goals against average, a .924 save percentage and one shutout.

Jarry, who cleared waivers Jan. 16, is in the second year of a five-year contract with an ample average annual value of $5.375 million. While Jarry is assigned to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, the Pittsburgh Penguins are able to relieve themselves of only $1.15 million of his cap hit.

The Pittsburgh Penguins are scheduled to practice at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Cranberry.
