Penguins recall forward Colin White from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton
The Pittsburgh Penguins recalled forward Colin White from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League Saturday evening, approximately two hours before their road game against the Carolina Hurricanes.
In a corresponding transaction, the team assigned defenseman Ryan Shea to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.
White, 26, attended the Penguins’ training camp on a professional tryout contract and appeared in four preseason games with no points and eight shots.
On Oct. 7, he signed a one-year, two-way contract worth $775,000 at the NHL level on Oct. 7. After clearing waivers, the right-handed White (6-foot-1, 190 pounds) was assigned to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on Oct. 9 and has spent all season at the AHL level until Saturday.
Undisclosed injuries have limited White to 21 AHL games and 10 points (five goals, five assists) this season.
A first-round pick (No. 21 overall) of the Ottawa Senators in 2015, White has already spent parts of seven seasons in the NHL, accumulating 292 games and 113 points with the Senators and Florida Panthers.
His recall comes one day after Penguins coach Mike Sullivan indicated forward Reilly Smith would be sidelined on a longer-term basis due to an undisclosed injury.
Shea, 26, has been shuffled between the NHL and AHL rosters several times this season. In 22 games this season, the left-handed Shea has no points while averaging 12:28 of ice per contest.
With Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, Shea (6-foot-1, 177 points) has appeared in four games and has no points.
A left-handed shot, Shea is signed to a one-year, one-way contract worth $775,000.
