Roughly 23 hours after being assigned to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League (AHL), forward Drew O’Connor was recalled to the Pittsburgh Penguins NHL roster Saturday morning.

Friday’s transaction was a formality to keep O’Connor eligible for the AHL playoffs should Wilkes-Barre/Scranton qualify. In total, O’Connor has been recalled to the NHL roster on three different occasions in 2022-23.

At the NHL level this season, the left-handed O’Connor (6-foot-3, 200 pounds) has set career highs with 27 games, five goals, three assists and eight points while averaging 9:05 of ice time per contest. He has been somewhat productive as of late with two goals and an assist in his past four games.

With Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, O’Connor has appeared in 20 games and has 22 points (eight goals, 14 assists).
