Penguins recall forward Jonathan Gruden from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton

The Pittsburgh Penguins recalled forward Jonathan Gruden from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League Tuesday night, shortly before facing the Carolina Hurricanes at PPG Paints Arena.

Gruden, 23, has frequently shuttled between the NHL and AHL this season.

In total, he has been recalled to the NHL roster seven times.

In 12 games with the Penguins, he has one goal, averaging 8 minutes, 38 seconds of nightly ice time while typically deployed on the club’s fourth line.

Gruden has played 46 games with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton this year, scoring 13 goals with 11 assists.

He carries a salary cap hit of $775,000 and is signed through this season.

He started the game on the left wing of the fourth line with center Sam Poulin and right wing Jesse Puljujarvi.
