The Pittsburgh Penguins recalled forward Joona Koppanen from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League (AHL) under emergency roster conditions.

The factors that may have led to such conditions are not yet publicly known.

In 53 AHL games this season, Koppanen has 21 points (six goals, 15 assists). During a 5-3 road win against the Lehigh Valley Phantoms on Sunday, Koppanen scored two goals.

Koppanen, 27, skated in four NHL games for the Penguins last season. He did not record a point while logging 7:49 of ice time per contest.

A left-handed shot, Koppanen (6-foot-5, 210 pounds) is in the final year of a two-year contract with a salary cap hit of $775,000.
