NEWARK, N.J. — The Penguins have recalled forward Joseph Blandisi on an emergency basis from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League

Blandisi, 25, has already appeared in seven NHL games this season and scored two points (one goal, one assist). In eight AHL contests, he has four points (two goals, two assists).

Blandisi’s recall comes on the heels of forward Nick Bjugstad leaving Friday’s 2-1 road loss to the New Jersey Devils due to an undisclosed injury.

To make room for Blandisi, forward Sidney Crosby was placed on injured reserve. He is expected to be sidelined six weeks due to a core muscle injury.

The Penguins host the Toronto Maple Leafs at PPG Paints Arena at 7:08 p.m. Saturday.
