In two NHL games this season, Penguins forward Ville Koivunen has no points.

The Pittsburgh Penguins recalled rookie forward Ville Koivunen from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League (AHL) on Sunday.

This transaction comes one day after forward Rickard Rakell appeared to suffer a left-hand injury during a 5-4 home shootout loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets on Saturday.

The Penguins announced Sunday morning Rakell underwent successful surgery and will miss six to eight weeks.

Koivunen, 22, is the AHL’s second-leading scorer with 11 points (four goals, seven assists) in six games. He has helped that team race out to a 7-0-0-0 start to the season.

A left-handed shot, Koivunen started the regular season on the NHL roster. He appeared in two games and did not record a point on two shots while averaging 13:26 of ice time per contest.

He was assigned to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on Oct. 11.
