The Pittsburgh Penguins recalled forwards Avery Hayes and Joona Koppanen from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League (AHL) on Thursday morning, a handful of hours before a road contest against the Ottawa Senators.

In 11 NHL games this season, Hayes has scored two goals while averaging 10:37 of ice time per contest.

At the AHL level, Hayes has appeared in 38 contests and posted 32 points, including a team-leading 20 goals.

A right-handed shot, Hayes (5-foot-10, 180 pounds) is in the first year of a two-year entry-level contract with a salary cap hit of $830,000.

Koppanen has played in 10 NHL games this season and posted one assist while clocking an average of 12:28 of ice time per contest.

With Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, Koppanen has skated in 37 games and posted 19 points (seven goals, 12 assists).

The left-handed Koppanen (6-5, 216) is signed to a one-year, two-way contract with a salary cap hit of $775,000.

These transactions occured one day after forward Anthony Mantha missed a practice session in Cranberry due to an undisclosed injury and was labled as “day to day.”
