In 21 games with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins this season, defenseman Kevin Czuczman has eight points (one goal, seven assists).

The Penguins have recalled defenseman Kevin Czuczman and forward Thomas Di Pauli from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League.

Czuczman, 28, has appeared in 21 AHL games this season and has eight points (one goal, seven assists). His only previous NHL experience came in the form of 13 games and two assists with the New York Islanders in 2013-14. A member of the AHL Penguins for three seasons, Czuczman (6-foot-3, 210 pounds) is a left-handed shot.

Di Pauli, 25, has played in 19 AHL games this season and has nine points (four goals, five assists). A fourth-round pick of the Washington Capitals in 2012, Di Pauli has spent parts of four seasons with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins but has never played in the NHL. Di Pauli (5-foot-11, 178 pounds) is a left-handed shot.

Their recalls come on the heels of the Penguins parting ways with forward Stefan Noesen, who was claimed on waivers by the San Jose Sharks, while also losing defenseman Justin Schultz to an undisclosed injury for several weeks. With two games remaining on their road trip through Western Canada, having extra healthy players available provides a contingency plan in the event of further absences.

The Penguins will face the Edmonton Oilers on Friday and the Vancouver Canucks on Saturday.

Coach Mike Sullivan told reporters in Edmonton that both players are expected to arrive in time for Friday’s game.

“Thomas Di Pauli brings a lot of speed,” Sullivan said. “He can kill penalties. He’s got a pretty good straight ahead game. He brings a lot of energy. That’s his type of game. He’s reliable defenisvely.

“(Czuzcman) is a guy is that’s just a steady, stay-at-home defenseman. Has good size. He’s strong. He’s good in the battle areas but he plays a simple game.”

Follow the Penguins all season long.
