The Pittsburgh Penguins placed depth wing Colton Sceviour on waivers Monday, according to a report from Canadian outlet Sportsnet.

Acquired along with Mike Matheson in the trade of Patric Hornqvist to the Florida Panthers last fall, Sceviour has two points — goals in consecutive games against the Washington Capitals during the first week of the season — in 16 games with the Penguins. Sceviour has not been in the lineup for any of the past three Penguins games, and he was on the league-provided covid-19 protocol list Saturday and Sunday.

The 31-year-old Sceviour began the season on the fourth line, but he has not come close to the 12 minutes, 39 seconds of ice time he got in the first game, topping 11 minutes only once since. Sceviour has averaged less than 8 minutes of ice time over his past seven games played. He was one of the least-utilized of the “bottom six” forwards on the penalty kill (1 minute, 9 seconds of PK time per game).

Before his four-year tenure with the Panthers, Sceviour began his NHL career with 170 games for the Dallas Stars between 2011-16.

The Penguins have used a spate of younger players on their fourth line in recent weeks, and Evan Rodrigues on Saturday returned from a weeks-long injury absence.

Keep up with the Pittsburgh Penguins all season long.
