Penguins rookie goaltender Sergei Murashov scheduled to make debut against Kings
Pittsburgh Penguins rookie goaltender Sergei Murashov is scheduled to make his NHL debut in Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Kings at PPG Paints Arena.
Coach Dan Muse announced Murashov’s status approximately two hours before the opening faceoff.
Murashov, who catches with his right hand, was recalled to the NHL roster Tuesday.
In seven games with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League this season, Murashov has a 5-2-0 record, a 1.73 goals-against average, a .931 save percentage and one shutout.
During the preseason with the NHL club, Murashov played in three games and posted a 2-1-0 record, a 1.72 goals-against average and a .935 save percentage.
Murashov, 21, was a fourth-round draft pick (No. 118 overall) in 2022.
Notes:
• Neither team held a morning skate with the contest starting shortly after 2 p.m.
• The Kings are expected to start goaltender Darcy Kuemper. In 10 games this season, Kuemper has a 4-3-3 record, a 2.57 goals-against average, a .900 save percentage and one shutout.
Throughout his career, Kuemper has played the Penguins in 10 games and has posted a 4-4-2 record, a 3.06 goals-against average and a .910 save percentage.
