The Pittsburgh Penguins will pay tribute to Hall of Fame broadcaster Mike Lange at their third home game of the season Tuesday, Oct. 8.
All fans in attendance at PPG Paints Arena will receive a bobblehead doll depicting Lange, headphones on, calling a game from a Penguins broadcast desk. The team will honor Lange with a pregame ceremony, then he’ll hustle back to the press level to call the game against the Winnipeg Jets.
Lange, 71, is entering his 45th season in the broadcast booth. He has yet to announce his retirement plans, but he has taken on a reduced schedule in recent seasons, cutting back on the number of road games he calls.
The Penguins have one other bobblehead giveaway on their promotional schedule, which was announced Monday. A figure of general manager Jim Rutherford will be handed out Nov. 19.
Other notable giveaways include a Sidney Crosby growth chart on Oct. 10, Hanson Brothers-style glasses for 70s Night on Oct. 16, Penguins socks on Nov. 25 and a coloring book on Dec. 4.
