Penguins scheduled to start goaltender Tristan Jarry against Blues
The Pittsburgh Penguins are scheduled to start goaltender Tristan Jarry on Saturday against the St. Louis Blues at PPG Paints Arena.
His status was announced by Penguins coach Mike Sullivan following an optional morning skate.
In 23 games this season, Jarry has a 10-11-2 record, a 2.49 goals against average, a .916 save percentage and four shutouts.
Throughout his career, Jarry has faced the Blues in six games and has posted a 5-1-0 record, a 1.82 goals against average, a .930 save percentage and one shutout.
With Jarry slated to start Saturday, backup goaltender Alex Nedeljkovic will presumably start Sunday’s home game against the New York Islanders.
Notes:
• Penguins forward Radim Zohorna will be available for Saturday’s lineup. He participated in Saturday’s optional morning skate after missing Friday’s practice session in Cranberry due to an undisclosed illness.
Primarily stationed on the third line, Zohorna has played in 28 games this season and has seven points (four goals, three assists) while logging an average of 10:25 of ice time per contest.
• Those who participated in the optional morning skate included:
Forwards — Vinnie Hinostroza, Evgeni Malkin, Drew O’Connor, Valtteri Puustinen, Bryan Rust, Zohorna
Defensemen — John Ludvig, Chad Ruhwedel
Goaltenders — Tristan Jarry, Alex Nedeljkovic
• Penguins defenseman Erik Karlsson has 599 career assists.
• The Blues are expected to start rookie goaltender Joel Hofer. In 13 games this season, Hoffer has a 7-5-0 record, a 2.73 goals against average, a .912 save percentage and one shutout.
Hofer has never played the Pittsburgh Penguins in his career.
He has played the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins however and even scored an empty net goal against them. During Game 3 of an Atlantic Division semifinal series of the 2022 Calder Cup playoffs, Hofer airmailed a puck into an open net to secure a 6-2 victory.

• Blues defenseman Justin Faulk, that team’s top defenseman by most measures, did not travel with the team after sustaining an undisclosed injury Friday.
With Faulk sidelined, the Blues recalled defenseman Matt Kessel from Springfield of the American Hockey League (AHL). In 29 AHL games this season, Kessel has six points (two goals, four assists).
• The Blues did not stage a morning skate having traveled overnight following a 2-1 home loss to the Colorado Avalanche on Friday.
