Pittsburgh Penguins amateur scout Kriss Wendell-Pohl has been selected for enshrinement into the Hockey Hall of Fame.
Her selection, along with six others, was announced Tuesday afternoon by the Hall.
Honored for her playing career as a forward, Wendell-Pohl suited up for the United States from 1999 until 2007. In 2002 (silver) and 2006, she helped lead the team to medals, serving as captain in the latter tournament.
Collegiately, the Brooklyn Park, Minn., native skated four seasons for the University of Minnesota. In addition to winning the NCAA championship twice (2004 and 2005), she won the Patty Kazmaier Award as the top women’s player at the NCAA level in 2005.
Previously, Wendell-Pohl was inducted into the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame in 2019.
The Penguins hired Wendell-Pohl in 2021, and she became the first woman to serve in that capacity in the history of the franchise. Her duties have her scouting primarily in the Minnesota region.
Also selected in the builder category is former Penguins defenseman Colin Campbell.
A second-round pick of the Penguins in 1973, Campbell spent parts of four seasons with the Penguins in the 1970s as part of an 11-year career in the NHL.
Following his retirement as a player in 1985, Campbell became an assistant coach with the Detroit Red Wings and eventually rose to head coach of the New York Rangers.
In 1998, Campbell became the NHL’s director of hockey operations and oversaw the league’s system of supplemental discipline, often to great criticism.
Campbell stepped down as the league’s chief disciplinarian in 2011 after a series of emails written by him were revealed through a lawsuit in which he criticized on-ice officials over penalties assessed against his son, NHL forward Gregory Campbell.
He continues to serve as the league’s director of hockey operations.
