With their final pick in the draft, the Penguins selected forward Kirill Tankov in the seventh round (No. 218 overall).
A native of Yurga, Russia, Tankov spent last season in the Molodyozhnaya Hokkeinaya Liga (MHL), that country’s top junior league.
Appearing in 60 games, Tankov had 44 points (19 goals, 25 assists). He split the season between Morozova and St. Petersburg.
A left-handed shot, Tankov is listed as 6-foot-1, 181 pounds.
“He’s a good-sized winger,” Penguins director of player personnel Chris Pryor said. “He can play center. He’s got a good skill set. Kind of long and lean. As with the college kids, it’s kind of conducive to Kirill, we can just leave him there and let him develop. … We have a good eye there with (European scout) Alexander (Khavanov). There’s a lot of promise there and upside with the kid.
Follow the Penguins all season long.
