LAS VEGAS — The Pittsburgh Penguins selected forward Tanner Howe in the second round (No. 46 overall) in the NHL Draft.
With the Regina Pats of the Western Hockey League last season, Howe appeared in 68 games and scored 77 points (28 goals, 49 assists).

“I think I’m a strong 200-foot center or winger,” Howe said following his selection at the Sphere entertainment venue. “I think I can play all positions really well. I think I add depth to the lineup and add some scoring touch, bury my own chances.”
Something of an agitator — “I like that side of the game” — Howe touts his versatility.
“I kind of call myself a Swiss Army knife,” Howe said. “I get in all positions, I can play penalty kill and I think I’m good five-on-five too. I play wing or centerman. I think that’s kind of what makes me special. I can play with anyone.”
A former linemate of Chicago Blackhawks star Connor Bedard, the left-handed Howe replaced Bedard (5-foot-11, 182 pounds) as Regina’s captain last season.
