The Penguins’ Kasper Bjorkqvist plays against the Sharks in the first period on Jan. 2, 2022 at PPG Paints Arena.

As the Penguins move closer to a full lineup than they’ve had all season, the team returned three forwards to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the AHL on Tuesday.

Anthony Angello, Kasper Bjorkqvist and Filip Hallander were sent down.

Bjorkqvist, 24, had the most significant NHL role of the trio in recent weeks. He appeared in six games this month, recording his first NHL goal during his debut Jan. 2 against San Jose. He averaged about eight minutes of ice time per game, including about a minute per game on the penalty kill.

Angello, 25, played in one game during his most recent NHL stay, taking eight shifts against Anaheim on Jan. 11.

Hallander, 21, has yet to make his NHL debut.

The Penguins welcomed winger Jason Zucker and Bryan Rust back to the lineup Monday night in Las Vegas. They continue to play without wingers Zach Aston-Reese and Danton Heinen and backup goalie Casey DeSmith due to covid protocols and forward Drew O’Connor due to injury.
