Pittsburgh Penguins forward Sidney Crosby was formally named captain of Canada’s men’s team for the Olympics in Milan on Sunday by Hockey Canada.

Crosby has served as Canada’s captain for several international tournaments. This is marks the second time he will fill that capacity in the Olympics, having previously done so in 2014 when Canada won gold.

Colorado Avalanche defenseman Cale Makar and Edmonton Oilers forward Connor McDavid will serve as alternate captains.

Penguins defenseman Erik Karlsson was named as an alternate captain for Sweden on Sunday.

The Swedish Ice Hockey Association announced Avalanche forward Gabriel Landeskog will act as captain and Tampa Bay Lightning defenseman Victor Hedman as an alternate captain along with Karlsson.

The 12-team men’s tournament opens Wednesday.
