The Pittsburgh Penguins on Saturday signed former New Jersey Devils defenseman Ryan Graves to a six-year contract that carries a salary cap hit of $4.5 million.

Graves, 28, appeared in 78 games last season and scored 26 points (eight goals, 18 assists) while averaging 19 minutes, 57 seconds of ice time per contest.

A left-handed shot, Graves (6-foot-5, 220 pounds) spent most of the 2022-23 season on the Devils’ second pairing alongside former Penguins defenseman John Marino. Graves also saw significant duties on the penalty kill, averaging 2:24 of short-handed ice time per contest.

Drafted in the fourth round (No. 78 overall) by the New York Rangers in 2013, Graves, a native of Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, has also played for the Colorado Avalanche during his five-year NHL career.
