The Penguins added another bottom-six forward to their mix on Thursday, signing former Anaheim Ducks forward Danton Heinen to a one-year contract worth $1.1 million.
Heinen, 26, appeared in 43 games for the Ducks last season and scored 14 points (seven goals, seven assists).
A left-handed shot, Heinen averaged 14 minutes, 46 seconds of ice time per contest last season, including 1:17 on the penalty kill.
Listed at 6-foot-1 and 188 pounds, Heinen was deployed on the Ducks’ second and third lines on a regular basis in 2020-21. According to Natural Stat Trick, his most common linemates in five-on-five situations were Jakob Silfverberg (269:27) and Adam Henrique (187:13).
Heinen entered this offseason as a restricted free agent but was not tendered a qualifying offer and was allowed to sign elsewhere. He just completed a two-year contract that carried a salary cap hit of $2.8 million.
A native of Langley, British Columbia, Heinen was a fourth-round pick (No. 116 overall) of the Boston Bruins in 2014. Over five seasons with the Bruins and Ducks, Heinen has played in 272 career game and has 121 points (44 goals, 77 assists).
According to Cap Friendly, the Penguins now have $2,596,795 of salary cap space.
