Pittsburgh Penguins goaltender Arturs Silovs is scheduled to start Wednesday’s road preseason game against the Columbus Blue Jackets at Nationwide Arena on Columbus, Ohio. He is scheduled to split the contest with Filip Larsson.

Coach Dan Muse announced those plans following a morning skate in Cranberry.

Silovs was acquired in a trade with the Vancouver Canucks in July. In 10 NHL games last season, Silovs had a 2-6-1 record, a 3.65 goals against average and an .861 save percentage.

Spending most of the 2024-25 season in the American Hockey League with the Abbotsford Canucks, Silovs led that club to a Calder Cup championship. During the postseason, he was selected as MVP of the playoffs after appearing in 24 games and posting a 16-7-0 record, a 2.01 goals against average, a .931 save percentage and five shutouts.

Larsson led all Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins goaltenders in games last season, appearing in 26 contests with a 12-9-3 record, a 2.84 goals against average, a .910 save percentage and five shutouts.

• Forward Noel Acciari participated in the skate, wearing a non-contact jersey. It marked his first appearance in a team activity, such as a morning skate or practice session since training camp opened last Thursday. Entering camp with a core muscle injury, he has been labeled as being sidelined indefinitely and remains status quo.

• Goaltender Joel Blomqvist is day-to-day with an undisclosed injury. It’s not immediately clear as to when Blomqvist was injured, but Muse reported the goaltender arrived to the rink on Wednesday morning not feeling completely healthy.

Blomqvist started in Monday’s preseason opener, a 2-1 road shootout loss to the Montreal Canadiens and stopped all 11 shots he faced.
