TAMPA, Fla. — The Penguins are scheduled to start goaltender Matt Murray against the Tampa Bay Lightning at Amalie Arena on Thursday according to coach Mike Sullivan.
In 28 games this season, Murray has 16-6-1 record along with a 2.85 goals against average, .900 save percentage and one shutout.
Ever since the team returned from its holiday break on Dec. 27, Murray and All-Star Tristan Jarry have essentially served as a platoon with neither starting more than three consecutive games since that time.
“They’ve handle it really well,” Sullivan said. “They’re both competitive guys, they both want the net. They’re both real capable guys. It’s real a healthy competition we have at that position. We think it’s a competitive advantage for us. We’re going to try to utilize both guys as best we can. Both of them are playing extremely well right now.”
Jarry has appeared in 26 games this season and has a 17-8-1 record along with a 2.19 goals against average, .928 save percentage and three shutouts.
