Penguins trade forwards Cody Glass, Jonathan Gruden to Devils

The Pittsburgh Penguins have traded forwards Cody Glass and Jonathan Gruden to the New Jersey Devils in exchange for forward prospects Chase Stillman and Max Graham as well as a third-round draft pick in 2027.

In 51 games this season, the right-handed Glass has scored 15 points (four goals, 11 assists) while averaging 13:25 of ice time per contest.

Glass, 25, is in the final year of a two-year contract with a salary cap hit of $2.5 million. He is a pending restricted free agent this upcoming offseason.

The Penguins acquired Glass (6-foot-3, 201 pounds) and a pair of draft picks in a trade with the Nashville Predators on Aug. 13.

Gruden, 24, has spent the entire season at the American Hockey League (AHL) level with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. In 42 games, he has posted 13 points (seven goals, six assists).

A left-handed shot, Gruden (6-foot, 192 pounds) is in the first year of a two-year two-way contract with a salary cap hit of $775,000.

The Penguins acquired Gruden in a 2020 trade that sent goaltender Matt Murray to the Ottawa Senators.

Stillman, 21, was a first-round draft pick (No. 29 overall) in 2021 by the Devils. A right-handed shot, Stillman (6-foot-1, 185 pounds) has spent the entire season at the AHL level with the Utica Comets. In 46 games, he has nine points (three goals, six assists).

He is in the first year of a three-year entry-level contract with a salary cap hit of $874,125.

A native of St. Louis, Stillman is the son of former NHL forward Cory Stillman.

Graham, 20, was a fifth-round draft pick (No. 139 overall) of the Devils in 2024. He has yet to sign an NHL contract.

At the junior level this season, the left-handed Graham (6-foot-3, 203 pounds) has spent the entire season with the Western Hockey League’s Kelowna Rockets, serving as that team’s captain. In 34 games, he has scored 35 points (13 goals, 22 assists).

According to Penguins president of hockey operations Kyle Dubas, Graham will miss the remainder of hte season following knee surgery but is expected to make a recover in time for the team’s prospect functions before the opening of training camp in September.

Following this transaction, the Penguins now possess 31 selections over the next three NHL Drafts.
