Penguins' Tristan Jarry, Kris Letang selected for All-Star Game event
Penguins goaltender Tristan Jarry and defenseman Kris Letang were selected for the NHL’s All-Star Game exhibition later this month in St. Louis. Each player will be a part of the Metropolitan Division squad.
Jarry, 24, was selected for the first time in his career. He will replace injured Columbus Blue Jackets goaltender Joonas Korpisalo, who is sidelined with a right knee ailment.
In 20 games this season, Jarry has a 13-6-1 record and leads the NHL with a 1.99 goals against average as well as a .935 save percentage. He also has three shutouts. He is the third Penguins goaltender to be selected for the game, joining Marc-Andre Fleury (2011, 2015) as well as Michel Dion (1982).
Letang, 32, was selected for the sixth occasion, the most by a defenseman in franchise history. He replaces Penguins forward Jake Guentzel, who is sidelined following surgery on his right shoulder.
In 34 games this season, Letang has 26 points (10 goals, 16 assists).
The only Penguins players selected for more All-Star game events are forwards Mario Lemieux (13), Jaromir Jagr (nine), Sidney Crosby (seven) and Evgeni Malkin (seven).
The event, which includes a skills competition and a three-on-three tournament between teams from the NHL’s four divisions, will be held at the Enterprise Center in St. Louis on Jan. 24 and 25.
