Penguins unveil new alternate jersey
The NHL unveiled alternate jerseys for 31 teams on Monday, including the Penguins.
Inspired by a look the franchise donned in the mid-1990s, the new jersey’s primary color is white and features “Pittsburgh” spelled diagonally across the chest. Additionally, it features the team’s primary logo, the “skating Penguin” on each shoulder.
Termed as a “Reverse Retro program,” by the NHL, 31 teams (excluding the expansion Seattle Kraken) will sport an alternative jersey throughout the 2020-21 season.
A press release from the league boasts each jersey will represent “unique and historical moments in each club’s history, while refreshing the color and design combination for an all-new presentation.”
In all reality, new jerseys and other merchandise represent new hockey-related revenues for the NHL as it has struggled financially during the coronavirus pandemic.
