WASHINGTON — The Pittsburgh Penguins waived forward Andrew Agozzino on Sunday.

He was one of several NHL players placed on waivers a day before the league’s trade deadline Monday. The maneuver will allow the Penguins to assign Agozzino to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League, presuming he clears at noon Monday.

Despite being placed on waivers, Agozzino was in the lineup for Sunday’s 5-2 loss to the rival Washington Capitals at Capital One Arena. Opening the game centering the team’s fourth line with Sam Lafferty and Anthony Angello on his wings, Agozzino logged 7 minutes, 58 seconds of ice time on 14 shifts. That included 49 seconds during a power-play. He had one shot on one attempt and was 5 for 9 (56%) on faceoffs.

Agozzino has appeared in 17 NHL games this season and has two assists. He previously cleared waivers during the preseason Sept. 23.

Note: Forward Dominik Kahun was sidelined for the second consecutive game because of a suspected left leg injury. He participated in warmups but was ultimately scratched.
