After a winding journey that led to a cherished April commitment, things have changed once again for a top Penn State recruit.
Four-star Nazareth quarterback Peyton Falzone flipped his commitment from the Nittany Lions to Auburn on Thursday. At 6-foot-4 and 200 pounds, Falzone is the nation’s No. 18 quarterback and Pennsylvania’s sixth-best prospect, according to the 247Sports Composite.
Falzone has now changed his commitment three times, as he first pledged to Virginia Tech before the decommitment that led to his Penn State choice. He’d visited Penn State nine times in total and four times after his April 12 commitment.
Falzone explained to PennLive in the aftermath of his pledge that he’d grown up a Nittany Lions fan and idolized now-assistant QBs coach Trace McSorley. He’s also worked hard to alter his game with QB trainer Brad Maendlar, most known for his work with Drew Allar.
“I went to bed and woke up the next morning like, ‘Wow, now I’m a committed guy.’ My life changed again,” Falzone said. “And that’s what I found in this recruitment process. Your life changes a lot — if it’s different offers and interests, commits and decommits — and I’m just so grateful that they offered me as a quarterback and they believe in me. I’m ready to maximize my potential and go there and compete.”
Penn State initially did not offer Falzone as a quarterback, welcoming him more as an undecided athlete before changing that tune in the spring. That was enough for Falzone to make it official at the time, even with a second quarterback committed in the form of California four-star Troy Huhn.
Now, Falzone joins an Auburn class as the only gunslinger verbally committed.
Penn State, meanwhile, is back to 20 commitments after receiving another from tight end Pierce Petersohn on Wednesday. The 2026 group ranks ninth nationally.
