STATE COLLEGE — Penn State announced Tuesday that Beaver Stadium and its other athletics venues will host events at full capacity during the 2021-22 school year.

During the 2020-21 academic year, Penn State home games were closed to the general public because of the coronavirus pandemic, and Tuesday afternoon’s announcement comes after covid-19 mitigation guidelines were lifted by Gov. Tom Wolf.

With the latest announcement, the Penn State football team can once again play host 107,000 fans at Beaver Stadium, and fall Saturdays around the university should look a little more like they did in the pre-pandemic world.

According to Penn State’s announcement, traditional pre-game festivities — including tailgating and the Lions’ arrival at Beaver Stadium — will also return this fall.

“We are excited to welcome our 107K strong back in Beaver Stadium and full capacity at our other athletics venues this fall with the adjustments in university, local, state and CDC guidance,” Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics Sandy Barbour said in a release. “Our fans are a true home field advantage for all of our teams and the 2020-21 season was not the same without them in our venues. We are so appreciative of the tremendous support of our donors and fans, especially during these challenging times, to allow us to continue to provide our more than 800 students-athletes with the conditions they need for success!”

According to Penn State, season ticket holders will receive an email June 8 with invoices, while details for single-game ticket sales, including student tickets, will be released in the coming weeks. Penn State will also be fully converting to mobile tickets for all sporting events.

Unvaccinated fans will be required to wear masks inside Penn State buildings at all times after June 28, according to the release, and the athletic department is encouraging Lions fans to receive the covid-19 vaccine.

In April, Penn State hosted a pair of practices at Beaver Stadium that were open to the public.

Penn State is set to host Ball State at Beaver Stadium on Sept. 11 for its home opener with a nationally televised matchup in prime time against Auburn set for Sept. 18.
