Penn State coach James Franklin will immediately start a national search for his next wide receivers coach after David Corley was fired Wednesday.

“I appreciate David’s efforts this season but feel it is in our program’s best interest to make a change at this time,” Franklin said in a statement. “I wish him and his family nothing but the best in the future.”

Corley spent only the 2018 season on Penn State’s staff after coaching wide receivers at Army in 2017. He also has coached running backs, quarterbacks and wide receivers at William & Mary where he was a record-setting passer. He was at Connecticut from 2014-2016, coaching running backs, wide receivers and special teams at various times.

Redshirt freshman K.J. Hamler led Penn State in receiving this season, with 42 catches for 754 yards and five touchdowns. Seniors Juwan Johnson and DeAndre Thompkins were next with 25 receptions each.
