Penn State coach James Franklin watches the action against Rutgers during the second half of an NCAA college football game in State College, on Saturday, Nov. 20, 2021.

Penn State landed the commitment of four-star tight end Andrew Rappleyea on Sunday, following his initial commitment to Michigan on Jan. 16.

“Michigan is a great place with great people, but the reality is I committed too quickly and take full responsibility for that,” Rappleyea wrote on Twitter. “I have come to realize that my heart is at Penn State. I’m excited about matriculating at Penn State and playing football four hours from my home.”

The 6-foot-4, 215-pound tight end out of Milton Academy in Massachusetts is rated the 16th-best tight end in the 2023 recruiting class and the fourth-ranked player in the state of Massachusetts, per On3.com. Penn State’s 2023 recruiting class is ranked No. 1 in the Big Ten and fifth nationally. Rappleyea becomes the second 2023 tight end to commit, following Exeter Township’s Joey Schlaffer’s pact Oct. 23.

Rappleyea, a Millbrook, N.Y., native visited Penn State on March 19-20, Michigan on March 24-25 and Boston College on Saturday.
