Penn State is on the board at the wide receiver position in the 2024 recruiting class, and the Lions went big flipping Roman Catholic four-star Tyseer Denmark from a previous commitment to Oregon. Denmark took an official visit to Penn State over the weekend, and signs began pointing to a potential flip when he backed away from his Oregon pledge shortly after.

In landing Denmark, Penn State gets the No. 3 player in Pennsylvania, the No. 40 wide receiver in the nation and the No. 235 player overall, according to the On3 industry rankings. The Nittany Lions now have commitments from the top three players in Pennsylvania with Denmark joining No. 1 Quinton Martin (Belle Vernon) and No. 2 Cooper Cousins (McDowell).

In addition to Oregon, where Denmark committed in November, he also had offers from Alabama, Florida State, Georgia, Michigan, Notre Dame and Ohio State, among others. Denmark is the first wide receiver to commit to Penn State since it hired Marques Hagans as the program’s position coach in January.

Denmark is listed at 5-foot-10 and 185 pounds with quick-twitch athleticism and explosive run-after-catch ability. He wears the same No. 5 at Roman Catholic as former Nittany Lion standout Jahan Dotson, of whom Denmark told Blue-White Illustrated he was a big fan.

With Denmark’s commitment, Penn State is up to 18 commitments in its 2024 class, which ranks No. 10 nationally in the On3 industry rankings, No. 6 by 247Sports and No. 7 by Rivals.

Penn State still could still generate more momentum at the wide receiver position, which remains a question mark for the 2023 team, in the ‘24 class. In addition to Denmark, Penn State is also a prime contender with River Rouge (Mich.) four-star Nick Marsh, Holy Trinity Diocesan (N.Y.) four-star Josiah Brown and Central Catholic three-star Peter Gonzalez.
