Penn State receives commitment from coveted 2021 offensive line prospect
Penn State landed an important verbal commitment Thursday when four-star offensive tackle Landon Tengwall announced on a Twitter video his plans to enroll next year.
Tengwall, a member of the Class of 2021 at Good Counsel High School in Olney, Md., is rated one of the best offensive linemen in the nation. He is the No. 5 tackle and 27th overall prospect, according to Rivals.com. He also is rated No. 2 overall in Maryland.
He has 30 offers — 28 from Power 5 schools, including Alabama, LSU, Pitt and West Virginia — but he made 10 visits to Penn State’s campus as far as back as 2017, according to Rivals.com.
He announced his decision while sitting behind a table with Penn State and Notre Dame hats. He chose the Penn State hat and unzipped his jacket to reveal a Nittany Lions T-shirt.

“Coach (James) Franklin, he’s the best coach out there,” he said.
Tengwall (6-foot-6, 315 pounds) said his time at home during the coronavirus outbreak gave him additional opportunity to ponder the decision-making process.
“It gave me time to think,” he said. “I don’t think I rushed this at all. I’ve thought about it a lot. This is really what I wanted to do.”
While he is home-bound, Tengwall said he has a workout bench at home and practices offensive line technique in his front yard.
He added, “Right after this, I’m about to head upstairs and do some homework.”
Penn State has three verbal commitments in its Class of 2021, including offensive lineman Nate Bruce of Harrisburg and wide receiver Liam Clifford of Cincinnati. They are three-star prospects.
