MOBILE, Ala. — Penn State star Nick Singleton suffered a significant injury at the Senior Bowl.

Singleton suffered a broken foot during Thursday’s practice at Hancock Whitney Stadium. The Reading Eagle reported the news Friday morning.

Singleton’s father told The Reading Eagle that the Penn State running back injured the fifth metatarsal bone in his right foot. He will undergo surgery early next week at the Andrews Sports Medicine & Orthopaedic Center in Birmingham, Ala.

Singleton is expected to attend the NFL Combine next month in Indianapolis, but he won’t be able to participate in on-field activities.

Singleton, Penn State’s all-time leader in rushing touchdowns and all-purpose yards, picked up the injury during a one-on-one drill.

Singleton walked off the field, got looked at by trainers on the sidelines and grabbed at his right foot. Then he limped into the locker room.

Singleton didn’t record the production he thought he would in his final season at Penn State. He rushed for 549 yards on 123 carries, both of which were career-low marks.

That’s why this week at the Senior Bowl — the first stop on a three-month trek toward April’s NFL Draft — was so important for Singleton’s future.

“I want to show that I’m a complete back,” Singleton told PennLive on Wednesday. “I want to show everyone why I’m here.”

It is unclear when he next will be able to showcase his skills for NFL scouts, coaches and executives.
